CobΓ‘ was one of the most important Mayan cities in the lower Mayan lands of the north. Surrounded by five lagoons, it came to dominate an extensive territory and its 50 erected roads, known in the Mayan language as βSac behβΒ (white path), had ceremonial-administrative-habitational sets as their destination. These paths allowed both the control of other groups and the rapprochement between entities, encouraging trade and rapprochement. Two of these roads reached more distant places, such as βixilβ, 20 kilometers away, and βYaxunΓ‘β, 100 kilometers away.Β The city of CobΓ‘ is one of the few pre-Hispanic settlements that retain its original name (Cobβ Ha), as evidenced by the inscriptions carved on the monuments.
